Welcome back to Myths & Mischief! This is your Lovable Lord of Lore, today’s mischievous myth is part of a countdown to Halloween, celebrating the death of America’s favorite gothic writer, Edgar Allen Poe.

The demise of Edgar Allen Poe has no records, there is no documentation, and there are many theories of how the famous gothic writer became nevermore. This story offers one possible account to make sense of his death. Some characters are fictitious but the theories and the events as they involve Poe have a basis in what happened to him. There is no record of any investigation, and guilty parties have never had their day in court and nothing in this story has been disproven, other than the fabrication of some characters.

Join us in the final 13 days of October as we go down the rabbit hole in pursuit of what happened to the inventor of the detective novel, the first self-sustained author, the creator gothic horror stories and the pioneer of the science fiction genre as well as globally recognized as the master of the macabre.

In his honor, there are Edgar Awards that recognize significant contributions of mystery writers including categories such as Best First Novel, Best Fact Crime, and Best Short Story as well as many other categories. Unfortunately, many artists are tortured souls and their lives are cut short, was this the case with Poe? Join us on this October journey.
